Set up REA in Claude Code.

I gave Claude Code one prompt and REA, and asked it to work out how Loom's camera bubble works from the app installed on my Mac, then build its own version. A second session did the same job from memory. Here's how to set REA up, the exact prompts, and what happened.

What REA is

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is an open-source toolkit that plugs into your coding agent as an MCP server. You ask your agent how a feature in an app works. REA hands it the tools: app unpackers, a JavaScript reader, decompilers it can drive (Hopper, Ghidra or IDA, if you have one) and Chrome DevTools. The agent comes back with evidence: the code it found, where it found it, and what it still doesn't know.

None of those tools are new. IDA dates back to 1991 and the NSA made Ghidra public in 2019. What's new is that your agent drives them for you.

Safety first

The only official repo is github.com/morluto/rea.

On 11 Oct 2026, look-alike repos showed up on GitHub offering a “REA download” as a free zip. Don't download them. REA installs through npm with one command (below), and there is no zip to download. If a repo isn't morluto/rea, close the tab.
